Recommended ages: 11 - 16

Young people come to an open studio setting to learn and refine artistic skills with artists/instructor Paul Hoelscher. The idea behind this ongoing class is to help young people make art the way that most interests them, with an artist who believes that everyone is artistic and who has enough personal experience to be supportive of many media and techniques. Media include acrylic, oil, and watercolor paint, soft and oil pastels, charcoal, graphite, colored pencil, and clay sculpture. Come and create the sky is the limit!

Glass Etching Class Back by Popular Demand!

Recommended ages: 11 - 16

Back by popular demand! Location: Downstairs Studio Supplies: Participants should bring 1-4 glass items to etch (Dollar Tree is a great source!) Plus simple pattern ideas (stencil patterns from Google images is a popular source!). Bring an exacto knife if possible! Instructor will provide: stencil materials and etching cream. All classes are offered for age 12 through 100, 8 and up with a parent. Course Description: Back by popular demand! This is a simple chemical technique to lightly etch glass. This is a simple chemical technique to lightly etch glass. Students will cut their own stencil, apply the etching cream, and in 10 minutes see their results!

BBeginning Ballet for Middle Schoolers Instructor: Heather Wallace Solisz Dates: January 2nd through February 13th Mondays and Wednesdays Time: 4-5pm Costs: $65.00 for members/ $97.50 for non-members includes ballet slippers. Location: Ballet Studio Supplies: gym clothes, whatever is comfortable to move in. Ballet shoes will be provided. Must provide shoe sizes 2 weeks in advance. Age Requirements if any: 6th through 8th grade Skill Level Requirements if any: none Minimum number of students: 3 Max # of Students: 12 Course description: Beginning Ballet class will cover the basics of classical ballet technique which incorporate core strength, flexibility training, musicality, and grace. While this will be a class for beginners, it will be taught at a lively pace with lots of challenging and rewarding benefits, physically and mentally. Beginning Ballet for Middle Schoolers will be a one hour class based off of Vaganova Ballet technique, taught with the understanding that all bodies can move and learn. We will start with quick warmup on the floor, then move to the barre, then do as much movement in the centre as time allows. Ballet terms in French terms will be utilized and explained in context. Note: There is a chance this class could be extended. It will be announced at class.

Crossroads welcomes Allison Swensen Mitchell to Baker City and to give vocal instruction lessons. While this instruction is not a Crossroads program, Crossroads will be extending our Hand to Heart Scholarship Fund for teens or adults who need financial assistance in taking private vocal instruction. We hope to continue to work with Mrs. Mitchell and expand offerings. I have taught both classical and musical theatre style voice for more than 30 years and can offer singers with any vocal preference, instruction to help improve their singing. At each age group only a specific number of children will be cast. The goal is for every child to feel successfully. Age Group: Maximum Number of Students: Entering 1st Grade thru Age 7 16 Age 8- 12 31 Age 13-18 13 Assistant Directors (12-18) 4 Total 60 (4 Asst. Directors) Missoula Children’s Theatre needs 60 of Baker County’s most talented young talents. Holiday Break – Youth Clay Workshop

Recommended ages: 11 - 16

Course description: A fun, hands-on workshop for youth ages 10 to 16! Learn about working with clay and flex those creative muscles by creating your own unique pieces. Join Shannon Gray in this fun two-day event! This five-hour workshop will take place over two days. On Friday we’ll do a brief intro to clay/studio tour and then jump right into making student-driven, hand built clay projects! Whether pinch-potting, slab-building, or coil-building, students will develop one or two unique projects that we will then paint/decorate/fine-tune on Saturday. After the workshop concludes, Shannon will handle the firing/optional final glazing of pieces. Student projects will be available for pick-up at Crossroads one or two weeks after class, depending on kiln firing schedules.
