Young Artists’ Studio-Join Anytime!

Recommended ages: 11 - 16

Young people come to an open studio setting to learn and refine artistic skills with artists instructor Paul Hoelscher. The idea behind this ongoing class is to help young people make art the way that most interests them, with an artist who believes that everyone is artistic and who has enough personal experience to be supportive of many media and techniques. Media include acrylic, oil, and watercolor paint, soft and oil pastels, charcoal, graphite, contè, colored pencil, and clay sculpture. Come and create – the sky’s the limit! Paul is a working professional artist and summer has him traveling to shows. At this time, we have Paul gone on May 26-27, June 2-3, June 30, July 1, July 7-8, July 14-15, August 11-12. Recycled Flower-Community Creations (Family Friendly)

Recommended ages: 11 - 16

This class is a spin-off from February’s Trash to Mask workshop! We will create flowers from recycled plastic, wood, and metal with the intent to ‘decorate’ some of the planter boxes along Main Street. Bring the whole family and an abundance of ‘materials’ and work together to create a variety of flower forms! (Special $15 family price for this activity!) Notes: All classes are designed to be ‘Family Friendly’ and ideal for parent-child combinations to experience art together. Children 12 and over are welcome alone, under 12 with a parent. All classes are single, one-lesson, projects with the option to finish at home if necessary. Most make use of recycled materials.

Equipment needed: A bagfull of recycling to contribute! Optional: sturdy scissors, lightweight wire, awl or hole punch, utility knife.

Dreamcatchers are a beautiful Native American craft, originally hung over the infant cradles to provide a path for spirits to leave during sleep. They make amazing decorations when crafted from natural or recycled materials. Notes: All classes are designed to be ‘Family Friendly’ and ideal for parent-child combinations to experience art together. Children 12 and over are welcome alone, under 12 with a parent. All classes are single, one-lesson, projects with the option to finish at home if necessary. Most make use of recycled materials.

Equipment needed: . PARTICIPANTS PROVIDE AS ABLE: 1-2 ft willow (or other flexible wood) branch OR a circular hoop or some type; assorted feathers (think pigeons, quail, chukar?) and/or beads/buttons/nuts.

This is a ‘repeat’ class in making three different types of flowers from scrap magazine paper. Another perfect opportunity to recycle materials around the house into beautiful permanent flower arrangements! Notes: All classes are designed to be ‘Family Friendly’ and ideal for parent-child combinations to experience art together. Children 12 and over are welcome alone, under 12 with a parent. All classes are single, one-lesson, projects with the option to finish at home if necessary. Most make use of recycled materials.

Equipment needed: PARTICIPANTS PROVIDE: Assorted colored magazines, large colored buttons (if you have some odd ones!), scrapebook papers. Optional: scissors, wire cutters.

Michael Albert is a current pop artist specializing in recycled collage art. This class will help participants get started on an ‘epic’ collage (larger scale) or ‘cerealism’ (based on a single recycled product). Great for cut and paste enthusiasts! All classes are designed to be ‘Family Friendly’ and ideal for parent-child combinations to experience art together. Children 12 and over are welcome alone, under 12 with a parent. All classes are single, one-lesson, projects with the option to finish at home if necessary. Most make use of recycled materials.

Equipment needed: Bring old magazines, cardboard food containers, wrappers, etc. The ‘Tennis Everyone!’ collage was created from old Tennis Magazines. Optional: Scissors

Summer Watercolor Workshops for Kids (Ages 8 - 12)

Recommended ages: 11 - 16

Do your kids want to learn the basic art skills. Come join these two hour quick classes where they learn a new technique in watercolor, acrylic or pastels each class. AUGUST Class, children will be painting with Pastel chalk. This will be a class where they will be painting local Bird images in Pastel. Their project will be taken home that day.

Equipment needed: : PLEASE have children in clothing that can handle messy paint that may not wash out!

Kid’s Dance Class (Ages 10-16)

Recommended ages: 11 - 16

Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday Dance Class. The students will be taught a variety of dance forms from Latin to hip hop, ballet, with contemporary, and lyrical styles fused in. The children need no experience. The classes are fun, a lot of work, a great workout, and the children respond well to my style of teaching which includes discipline and structure. The class mantra is to believe in one’s self. (Contemporary, lyrical, hip hop, jazz and Latin fused instruction)

Equipment needed: Students need or are encouraged to dress in all black: leggings, t-shirt and a soft shoe (no sneakers) are requested. Tee shirts from “Ms. Amy’s dance school” are available for sale, as well as photos

Course Description: The well respected Missoula Children’s Theatre is coming back to Baker City three times this year and will perform “The Tortoise Versus the Hare.” Open to students who will be entering first grade in the fall all the way through High School ages. At each age group only a specific number of children will be cast. The goal is for every child to feel successful. Age Group: Maximum Number of Students: Entering 1st Grade thru Age 7 16 Age 8- 12 26 Age 13-18 18 Assistant Directors (12-18) 4 Total 60 (4 Asst Directors) Missoula Children’s Theatre needs 60 of Baker County’s most talented young talents. The Missoula Children’s Theatre will encourage and inspire our youth in every part of the theatre experience from acting to directing.
