Young people come to an open studio setting to learn and refine artistic skills with artists/instructor Paul Hoelscher. The idea behind this ongoing class is to help young people make art the way that most interests them, with an artist who believes that everyone is artistic and who has enough personal experience to be supportive of many media and techniques. Media include acrylic, oil, and watercolor paint, soft and oil pastels, charcoal, graphite, colored pencil, and clay sculpture. Come and create the sky is the limit!

Minimum number of students: 4 Maximum number of students: 8 Complete course description: Crossroads has a history of puppetry dating back to its inception and instructor Dawn-Marie deLara has fond memories of rabbits on the downstairs stage, in those early days. By request, she’s bringing back that fun with this basic anthropomorphic animal marionette class. Though marionettes can be made of many materials, for this class we’ll be using polymer clay to create colorful, whimsical dancing animals. Participants will leave with a puppet and printed materials to make more from a variety of materials at home.

Last date to sign up: Tuesday April 9 Age requirements: 12 – Adult, Children 8 thru 11 may take the class with a paid adult Skill Level: This project can be enjoyed by beginners and refined by those with more experience. Minimum number of students: 4 Maximum number of students: 10 Complete course description: It’s easy to make faerie friends! A little polymer clay, a bit of patience, a sprinkle of creativity, and almost as quick as you can twitch a whisker you’ve a new friend to sit upon a shelf or in your fairy garden. We’ll be using oven bake polymer clay (Sculpey III and Premo) and easy to learn sculpting techniques in this 2 hour class. Those who finish early can make a few accessories, and those who need a bit more time can breathe easy, as Dawn-Marie is always happy to stay as long as needed for everyone to finish.

KIDS FAMOUS ARTIST CLASS – Dali, O’Keefe, Matisse

Introduce your children to three famous artists – Henri Matisse, Salvador Dali, and Georgia O’Keefe. In this 3 hour afternoon class the students will produce three works of art in the style of each artist while exploring aspects of design and composition. Snacks provided! Child should bring a simple photograph or drawing of a favorite animal or flower to use as the basis for each project. Class open to youth ages 8-14 (age 5-7 with a helping adult). CLASS SIZE LIMIT of 10.

Beginning Ballet for Middle Schoolers Instructor: Heather Wallace Solisz Dates: February 20th through March 20th Mondays and Wednesdays Time: 4-5pm Costs: $45.00 for members/ $67.50 for non-members includes ballet slippers. Location: Ballet Studio Supplies: gym clothes, whatever is comfortable to move in. Ballet shoes will be provided. Must provide shoe sizes 2 weeks in advance. Age Requirements if any: 6th through 8th grade Skill Level Requirements if any: none Minimum number of students: 3 Max # of Students: 12 Course description: Beginning Ballet class will cover the basics of classical ballet technique which incorporate core strength, flexibility training, musicality, and grace. While this will be a class for beginners, it will be taught at a lively pace with lots of challenging and rewarding benefits, physically and mentally. Beginning Ballet for Middle Schoolers will be a one hour class based off of Vaganova Ballet technique, taught with the understanding that all bodies can move and learn. We will start with quick warmup on the floor, then move to the barre, then do as much movement in the centre as time allows. Ballet terms in French terms will be utilized and explained in context.

Crossroads welcomes Allison Swensen Mitchell to Baker City and to give vocal instruction lessons. While this instruction is not a Crossroads program, Crossroads will be extending our Hand to Heart Scholarship Fund for teens or adults who need financial assistance in taking private vocal instruction. We hope to continue to work with Mrs. Mitchell and expand offerings. I have taught both classical and musical theatre style voice for more than 30 years and can offer singers with any vocal preference, instruction to help improve their singing.
