Recommended ages: 11 - 16

Young people come to an open studio setting to learn and refine artistic skills with artists/instructor Paul Hoelscher. The idea behind this ongoing class is to help young people make art the way that most interests them, with an artist who believes that everyone is artistic and who has enough personal experience to be supportive of many media and techniques. Media include acrylic, oil, and watercolor paint, soft and oil pastels, charcoal, graphite, colored pencil, and clay sculpture. Come and create the sky is the limit!

A Place to Create Art Camp for Kids Instructor: Anna Davis, A Place to Create from Washougal, WA Dates: June 17, 18,19. 20,21 ( 1 Week Camp) Time: 9am to 1 pm each day, Lunch Break and Snack Time Costs: $215.00 for the week member rate/$322.50 for the week non-member (All inclusive including all supplies, equipment and water) Location: Downstairs Supplies: Students need to bring a sack lunch and snack. Age Requirements: 7 years old and up Minimum number of students: 3 Max # of Students: 12 Course Description: Campers will go home with an Art Journal, Apron, Keepsake Album, Pillow, Wood Plaque, Potted Plant and vision cards. Parents and grandparents rave about the quality of the projects also how much campers enjoy love coming each day and many who come back year after year. Introduce your children to three famous artists – Keith Haring, Salvador Dali, and Georgia O’Keefe. In this 3 hour afternoon class the students will produce three works of art in the style of each artist while exploring aspects of design and composition. Snacks provided! Child should bring a simple photograph or drawing of a favorite animal or flower to use as the basis for each project. Class open to youth ages 8-14 (age 5-7 with a helping adult). CLASS SIZE LIMIT of 10.

Ms. Amy’s Dance Class Instructor: Amy Martin-Friedman June 17-20 – 4 classes 9:00-10:00 – 5-9 year olds $32 members/$48 non-members 10:30-12:00 – 10-18 year olds $48 members/$72 non-members 2:30-3:30 Mon. and Wed. only – Adult Ladies $16 members/$24 non-members Location: Upstairs Dance Studio Minimum # of students 6-8 Maximum # of students 12 Course Description: Students will explore an infuse, Latin, contemporary, jazz, ballet, lyrical and hip hop dance. No experience needed in this fun class that is a lot of work and a great workout. Children respond well to Amy’s style of teaching which includes discipline and structure. The class mantra is to believe in one’s self. Students need or are encouraged to dress in all black: leggings, t-shirt and a soft shoe (no sneakers unless slippery with NO TREAD on the bottom) are requested. T-shirts/hoodies from “Ms. Amy’s dance school” are available for purchases as well as photos that will be taken of the children during camp. Amy has more than 40 years of dance experience and has been teaching at Crossroads for over 10 years. This year’s format should allow students the opportunity to not miss an intense-learning segment as classes are one week, 4-5 days in a row. Children should bring a water bottle and small snack for longer classes.

Musical Theater! Aspiring performers of all ages are invited to come dance with a professional dancer while learning different styles of dance! Laryssa Rice started her ballet training in Eastern Oregon at age 3. She moved to Boise as a young teen to attend dance classes at BSU under the direction of Marla Hansen and Capitol City Youth Ballet under the direction of Sara Phipps. While attending BSU, she danced with Idaho Dance Theater and many student repertory performances, where she was able to work with different choreographers and dancers. Laryssa also won scholarships to dance intensives, such as Summer Dancefest, Summer Dance Lab and CSI/IDAA camps. While attending a camp, Laryssa was recruited to join Sacramento Ballet in California. She accepted and danced with Sacramento Ballet for two seasons, before moving back to Idaho to teach dance. She has taught at many studios in the Treasure Valley and is very happy to be teaching at Canyon Dance Academy.

Crossroads welcomes Allison Swensen Mitchell to Baker City and to give vocal instruction lessons. While this instruction is not a Crossroads program, Crossroads will be extending our Hand to Heart Scholarship Fund for teens or adults who need financial assistance in taking private vocal instruction. We hope to continue to work with Mrs. Mitchell and expand offerings.
