Recommended ages: 11 - 16

Young people come to an open studio setting to learn and refine artistic skills with artists/instructor Paul Hoelscher. The idea behind this ongoing class is to help young people make art the way that most interests them, with an artist who believes that everyone is artistic and who has enough personal experience to be supportive of many media and techniques. Media include acrylic, oil, and watercolor paint, soft and oil pastels, charcoal, graphite, colored pencil, and clay sculpture. Come and create the sky is the limit!

KIDS FAMOUS ARTIST CLASS – Dali, O’Keefe, Keith Haring

Recommended ages: 11 - 16

Introduce your children to three famous artists – Keith Haring, Salvador Dali, and Georgia O’Keefe. In this 3 hour afternoon class the students will produce three works of art in the style of each artist while exploring aspects of design and composition. Snacks provided! Child should bring a simple photograph or drawing of a favorite animal or flower to use as the basis for each project. Class open to youth ages 8-14 (age 5-7 with a helping adult). CLASS SIZE LIMIT of 10.

Discover the fun of creating Celtic Knotwork designs on your own using grids and dots as your guide. The process taught in this class is fairly simple with great results. Use it to make personalize cards, posters, etc. OR as a new meditative practice!

Ms. Amy’s Dance Class Instructor: Amy Martin-Friedman July 23-26 – 4 classes 9:00-10:00 – 5-9 year olds $32 members/$48 non-members 10:30-12:00 – 10-18 year olds $48 members/$72 non-members 2:30-3:30 Wed. only – Adult Ladies $8 members/$12 non-members Location: Upstairs Dance Studio Minimum # of students 6-8 Maximum # of students 12 Course Description: Students will explore an infuse, Latin, contemporary, jazz, ballet, lyrical and hip hop dance. No experience needed in this fun class that is a lot of work and a great workout. Children respond well to Amy’s style of teaching which includes discipline and structure. The class mantra is to believe in one’s self. Students need or are encouraged to dress in all black: leggings, t-shirt and a soft shoe (no sneakers unless slippery with NO TREAD on the bottom) are requested. T-shirts/hoodies from “Ms. Amy’s dance school” are available for purchases as well as photos that will be taken of the children during camp. Amy has more than 40 years of dance experience and has been teaching at Crossroads for over 10 years. This year’s format should allow students the opportunity to not miss an intense-learning segment as classes are one week, 4-5 days in a row. Children should bring a water bottle and small snack for longer classes.

Crossroads welcomes Allison Swensen Mitchell to Baker City and to give vocal instruction lessons. While this instruction is not a Crossroads program, Crossroads will be extending our Hand to Heart Scholarship Fund for teens or adults who need financial assistance in taking private vocal instruction. We hope to continue to work with Mrs. Mitchell and expand offerings. Private Vocal Lesssons The only thing better than singing is more singing! said Ella Fitzgerald Over 30 years of teaching, 19 years director of voice and opera at Willamette University. I have taught both classical and musical theatre style voice for more than 30 years and can offer singers with any vocal preference, instruction to help improve their singing. At each age group only a specific number of children will be cast. The goal is for every child to feel successfully. Age Group: Maximum Number of Students: Entering 1st Grade thru Age 7 16 Age 8- 12 28 Age 13-18 16 Assistant Directors (12-18) 4 Total 60 (4 Asst. Directors) Missoula Children’s Theatre needs 60 of Baker County’s most talented young talents. The Missoula Children’s Theatre will encourage and inspire our youth in every part of the theatre experience from acting to directing. Design Your Back to School Wardrobe Instructor: Judy Head Dates: Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, August 13-15 Times: 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. (bring your own lunch) Location: Downstairs Studio Supplies: Min: 5 students Max: 10 students Age Requirement: 7th – 12th grade Cost: $60/member $90/ non-member Design your own wardrobe! You design it, your make it, you love wearing it! This is a great opportunity to repurpose old clothes into new designs. The instructor will teach you basic needle and thread sewing techniques in addition to use of the sewing machine to repurpose clothes into fashions that fit your style. Bring your own clothes that you would like to update or choose from a selection the instructor will have available. Think jeans, t-shirts, skirt, sweaters and bring pictures of any ideas you may have. Great for back-to-school wardrobes!
