Young people come to an open studio setting to learn and refine artistic skills with artists/instructor Paul Hoelscher. The idea behind this ongoing class is to help young people make art the way that most interests them, with an artist who believes that everyone is artistic and who has enough personal experience to be supportive of many media and techniques. Media include acrylic, oil, and watercolor paint, soft and oil pastels, charcoal, graphite, colored pencil, and clay sculpture. Come and create the sky is the limit!

This unique hands-on workshop allows participants to create their own graffiti art project. Learn the history and meaning, and tips and techniques of aerosol art, from fill-ins to masterpieces as you immerse yourself in the graffiti art culture. Cultivating creative thought and a welcoming environment, this experience is designed for all ages and talent levels. Leave this workshop with a greater understanding of this still misunderstood craft and of course, your newly created work. • Students will be introduced to the art of graffiti using video and sample work. • Students will learn some of the graffiti basics, then be able to create their own. • Students will be encouraged to practice their graffiti art at home or at the gallery during open studio time. • Students will be taught where and when to use graffiti. Graffiti workshop II: students can continue their craft in a safe, welcoming and friendly environment. Saturday June 23rd One Day Only Location: Upstairs Studio Supplies: Students should bring a printed photo of their pet, preferably in black and white, and between 5X7 in. to 8X10 in. in size. All other supplies will be provided by the teacher. Supplies include: drawing pencils, rulers, variety of erasers, drawing paper, handouts, variety of pens, and more. Age Requirements if any: 8+. Kids and adults welcome Skill Level Requirements if any: none, all levels welcome Minimum: 4 Maximum: 16 Learn about pencil drawing and ink drawing, while creating a portrait of your pet! We will do a series of drawing exercises, to learn different tricks for drawing with pencils and pens, and students will finish class by creating a portrait drawing of their pet. Learn how to draw with graphite and ink, while creating a portrait of your pet! We will do a few short exercises and in the process learn tricks for drawing animals, including: how to draw fur and other textures, and how to translate a photograph into a drawing. We will also learn about different kinds of pens, erasers, papers, and inks. Students will finish class by creating a portrait drawing of their pet. We can discuss photo processing apps, Instagram, social media like Facebook, where best to permanently store photos, and share our favorite photographs as time allows. Participants should bring a simple design idea with white and black and one color, plus a sack dinner and drink. Dye, wax, fabric, and tools are provided. Min. # of students: 4 Maximum: 10 Course Description: This is an introductory class of the Indonesian and Indian art of batik, which combines a wax resist process, dye and fabric. This class will involve hot wax and will run for 3-4 hours.

Kid�s Dance Class (Ages 10-16) (Contemporary, lyrical, hip hop, jazz and Latin fused instruction) Start date: July 9th (6 classes) Time: Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday Sessions: 11:00 am -12:30 Instructor: Amy Martin Friedman Location: Upstairs Studio Cost: $90 members/ $120 non-members Minimum: 6 Class Description: Ms. Amy will return this summer for two weeks of a dance camp. The students will be taught a variety of dance forms from Latin to hip hop, ballet, with contemporary, and lyrical styles fused in. The children need no experience. The classes are fun, a lot of work, a great workout, and the children respond well to my style of teaching which includes discipline and structure. The class mantra is to believe in one�s self. Students need or are encouraged to dress in all black: leggings, t-shirt and a soft shoe (no sneakers) are requested. Tee shirts from �Ms. Amy�s dance school� are available for sale, as well as photos of the children will also be taken during camp and will be available for purchase as well at the end of the session. Performance/recital will be scheduled to showcase the student�s hard work for all to enjoy. Master Ballet Class with Valery Lantratov Instructor: Valery Lantratov Start date: Sunday August 19th (One day only!) Time: 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM Location: Ballet Studio Attire: Students are required to wear dance shoes in class. Flat ballet shoes are preferred but jazz and other appropriate dance footwear is acceptable. No bare or stocking feet please. Technique classes are not conducted with the students on pointe. Special pointe classes are available on request. If the students have them, character or jazz shoes should be worn for character classes. Traditional ballet attire is appreciated, but not required. Any appropriate dancewear is acceptable. Cost: $40 for Crossroads members and $60 for non-members. Min. # of students: 4 Maximum: 10-15 Course Description: Crossroads is thrilled to welcome Ballet Master Valery Lantratov, who is traveling through the area and has agreed to teach an advanced ballet class at Crossroads. The class is a 1 1/2 hour classical ballet master class, Russian technique, barre and center. We ask that all participating students have taken multiple ballet classes either adult or teens. This class is designed for intermediate to advanced dance students. Valery can teach more than one class but we must fill classes before we add an additional class so students need to sign up immediately at 541-523-5369. Class must be paid for at time of sign up. To receive a refund cancellation must occur 2 weeks prior to the class. We can do a younger student class only if we can get 10 paid tuitions. Contact Crossroads for more information—541-523-5369. If there is no interest in a younger student interest in a separate class we will arrange for parents to bring the younger students to come and sit and watch the advanced class at no charge. Valery Lantratov, Artistic Director, Russian National Ballet Foundation Valery Lantratov has had a distinguished career as a dancer in the companies of Vladimir Vasiliev, Maya Plitsetskaya and Ekaterina Maximova and international tours with Rudolf Nureyev. Most recently he has made international headlines for his role as Czar Nicholas II in a production of the new ballet Rasputin, with Farouk Ruzimatov of the Marinsky Theater (Kirov) and for successful international tours of Don Quixote and original choreography for the annual festival for the goddess Aphrodite in Cypruss. A graduate of the Moscow Academic Choreographic College, Lantratov was selected as a first soloist with the Moscow Stanislavski Ballet. With the theater he danced principal roles in such ballets as Don Quixote, Copellia and Romeo and Juliet. He has received accolades in the Russian and international press for his strong technique, personality and expressiveness. In 1993, Lantratov began working for the Kremlin Ballet. This same year, he formed the Russian National Ballet Foundation. He has toured as a solo guest artist in such countries as Japan, Germany, Italy, Greece, France, Portugal, Spain and the United States. The Russian National Ballet Foundation has toured in Europe, Asia, The Middle East and the United States. In 1997, Russian president Boris Yeltsin named Valery Lantratov “ People’s Artist of Russia,” the Russian Federation’s highest artistic honor. Mr. Lantratov holds a teaching certificate Russia's renowned National Academy of Theatrical Arts- GITIS.* For three years, Mr. Lantratov served as a guest instructor at the Boston Ballet. With his Russian National Ballet Foundation, Lantratov is able to realize his goal of introducing new audiences throughout the world to some of the finest classical works of Russia. “No matter what might happen between the countries in the world, dance can deliver peace, compassion and art—eternal values.” *GITIS' ballet department was founded in 1946 under A. Gorsky, R. Zakharov and Leonid Lavaovsky of the Bolshoi Ballet with equal state funding to the Bolshoi. It is the only institute in Russia to offer a diploma in choreography and direction for ballet theatre. Its distinguished ballet masters include Vladimir Vassiliev (director of the Bolshoi, retired), Nadja Pavlova (prima ballerina absoluta of the Bolshoi, retired) and Katirina Maximova (prima ballerina absoluta of the Bolshoi, retired).

The goal is for every child to feel successful. Course Description The well respected Missoula Childrens Theatre is coming back to Baker City three times this year and will perform King Arthurs Quest. Open to students who will be entering first grade in the fall all the way through High School ages. At each age group only a specific number of children will be cast. The goal is for every child to feel successful. Age Group Maximum Number of Students Entering 1st Grade thru Age 7 16 Age 8 thru 12 28 Age 13 thru 18 16 Assistant Directors 12 to 18 4 Total 60 plus 4 Asst. Directors Missoula Childrens Theatre needs 60 of Baker Countys most talented young talents. The Missoula Childrens Theatre will encourage and inspire our youth in every part of the theatre experience from acting to directing. Performances will be $5.00 per person and our open to the community. Special Thanks to Arlene Schnitzer for her challenge grant at Gala and the hundreds of people who met that challenge at our Gala Fundraiser for Missoula Childrens Theatre. We thank all of last years actors and families who supported MCT. This years goal is to increase our audience for every show by double. So please invite friends and family members to these wonderful shows. Tickets are $5.00 for adults and Children under 13 are free.

Equipment needed: A smile and a daily snack.
