Western Shadows

Western Shadows

Join us on First Friday, May 5th for an opening reception welcoming Brian Sostrom of Carnation, Washington with an exhibition of acrylic paintings on Plexiglas titled "Western Shadows." We will have an informal artist talk starting at 5:30 pm during the opening reception. The artwork of Baker Middle School students will be featured in the student gallery during the month of May. This exhibition is on display through Saturday, May 27th and generously sponsored by Lew Bros. Les Schwab Tires. Brian Sostrom Artist Statement: Nature and the beauty of emptiness have heavily inspired Brian Sostrom’s paintings. The atmospheric images are not intended to communicate a story but rather create an intriguing visual poem. His recent works are acrylic paint on Plexiglas. The slick surface of the plastic sheeting makes an excellent surface for subtle brushwork and mark making. The flip side of the Plexiglas is covered with layers of transparent textures that harmonize and compliment the painted image. Glass beads and iridescent paint are often incorporated into his work and alter the appearance of the surface as the lighting and angle of view shift.
