Artist's Statement: Paul paints with acrylics, watercolors, pastels, and oils, and draws with many dry media and ink. He works faithfully with his sketchbooks trying to capture fleeting moments in nature as references for finished drawings and paintings that will hopefully inspire all of us. His art is intended to help us stay connected with the perfect beauty and greatness of creation. The natural things that are around us everyday are as profound and beautiful as any great wonder from somewhere else. Anonymous Every single thing that God has made is perfect and beautiful. Bio: Paul Hoelscher is a professional artist and art instructor from Baker City, Oregon. He has a bachelor's degree in art and economics from St. John's University in Collegeville, Minnesota and has been a full-time artist since 2002. He is a prolific sketcher of life and develops his visual notes into finished works with acrylic paint or watercolor, charcoal, pastel, or clay. Paul teaches drawing and painting, and beginning ceramics through open studios for children and adults at the Crossroads Carnegie Art Center in Baker City. He guides open studio art with the Artspeak grant program in elementary schools and is an active member of ArtsEast's Artist in Residence program in eastern Oregon. Paul also offers workshops in painting and drawing and private art consultation and instruction, and is a member of the Board of Directors for the Crossroads Carnegie Art Center. Paul's artwork has won many awards in juried contests and shows. He has exhibited throughout the Northwest and been published with the Transparent Watercolor Society of America, the Northwest Watercolor Society, and as cover art for Birdwatcher's Digest. His work is part of private and public collections from coast to coast. Paul's art is represented by the Wyoming Gallery in Jackson, Wyoming and the Peterson's Gallery, the Short-term Gallery, and the Crossroads Carnegie Art Center in Baker City, Oregon.
