"Our Environment, Ourselves, & Modernist Abstraction," oil paintings by Oregon artist Dori Bartholomew Litzer will be on exhibit during the month of August at Crossroads Carnegie Art Center. Please join us at Crossroads in downtown Baker City for First Friday on August 2 from 5:00pm-8:00pm and will be giving a brief artist talk at 5:15pm. "Our Environment, Ourselves, & Modernist Abstraction" will run from August 2 through August 29.

Litzer is a retired Linn-Benton Community College Professor, where she taught various art and art history classes from 1988 until 2015.  Modernist Abstraction has long held interest for Litzer whose favorite subjects are water and air. Reflections about why and what she paints are within the paintings themselves. Color, line, texture and value create paintings representing colorful Koi fish swirling in deep blue busy waters, distant horizons under cloud filled skies over aqua waters dancing with sparkle and light. Breezy summer beaches, cool reflections and abstract studies in movement and light create an intriguing exhibition which the viewer gets lost in illusions and nuances of Litzer's beloved places through the process of painting.

There will also be a special performance at St. Francis De Sales Cathedral, "Music From the Heart." A concert to create a youth music instruction scholarship fund for Crossroads. Please purchase your tickets in advance as seating is limited and tickets can't be guaranteed at the door. Tickets are available at Betty's Books, Crossroads, and online at www.crossroads-arts.org. Doors open at 5:30 and the concert begins at 6pm and is expected to end at 7pm.

Crossroads is also hosting one of the locations for The Little Big Show, Crossroad's proceeds will be supporting Hand to Heart scholarships for youth of Baker County. Other locations of The Little Big Show is Churchill Hall Pass Gallery, The Cheese Fairy at Copper Belt Wine Tasting Room, and Royal Artisan Gallery. The Little Big Show will be unveiled promptly at 5:30 simultaneously at all locations and will be available through Thursday, August 29th.
