Artful Alchemy Fridays!
Start the weekend with an art activity that blends a little magic or metaphysics into the making. This enchanting series focuses on a different art medium or genre each month but leans toward the mystical, incorporating symbolism and intention.
*This is an ongoing series, but pre-registration is strongly encouraged for each class. If you have creative friends you want to hang out with but they don’t want to participate in the class, they can bring their own sketchbook, needlework, or similarly contained project to do, there is no need for them to sign up.
April 11 - Handmade Journals with Lay-Flat Binding
This practically magical binding method is both extremely easy and extremely effective to make a solid journal with pages that lay flat, no matter where you open it. Students can create a blank journal with mixed media paper, especially nice for anyone taking the "Nature Journaling For Everyone" class that starts April 16th, or use a mix of papers for a junk journal-style book. You may bring your own paper if you prefer.
April 18 - "Watercolor" Cookie Art.
100% edible! Lemon glazed butter cookies will be pre-baked and glazed by the instructor (recipes will be available for you to make more at home), so you can just come have fun painting mini-masterpieces with food colors. Think you can't paint? No worries! If masterpieces go wonky, there's a great "abstract marble" save that can look absolutely intentional. If you still hate everything you paint, you can just eat the evidence, so a fun evening either way. IMPORTANT: Students who sign up by noon on Thursday the 17th are guaranteed a dozen cookies. There will be extras made for later sign-ups and walk-ins, but baking and glazing takes a lot of time and has to be done 24 hours before painting, so help the instructor plan if you can.
April 25th Beads & Bits Amulet Pouch.
Come create a delightful little piece of wearable art from wool-blend felt, fabric scraps, beads, and ribbons. You don't have to make it pocket-style, but if you do, there's a spot to tuck in a favorite crystal, affirmation, or lucky charm. Don't worry if you've never sewn. You can make these with a couple of easily learned stitches. Students may bring their own materials if desired, but there will be (way) more than plenty provided.
