Dye Painting Fabric
Learn to dye-paint fabric!
Hey, fiber artists and fabric enthusiasts! Here’s a fabric-dying technique you might not have heard of! If tie dye isn’t your jam and you haven’t the patience for batik, and maybe you like the idea of creating designs with fabric paint but not the obvious paint texture, I think you’ll want to try this! After seeing an antique garment that was intricately hand-painted with dye and having once attempted that with absolutely NO intricacy to my results, I contacted my favorite dye supplier to see what they could tell me. Turns out, certain dyes plus certain thickeners create dye you can apply with paint brushes, and ohhhhh, the possibilities are endless! I got so excited I kinda went overboard on supplies, so I still have plenty to share. Come give it a try!
