"Brushstrokes and Byways: Paint Baker County" 2026 Results and Recap

This year's Plein Air Event was off the charts with more prizes, more parties, more paint-out locations, more participants, more community support and fun than ever before! 40 artists are displaying their artwork in a city-wide exhibition for the month of November (6th-28th) at Peterson's, Royal Artisan, The Cheese Fairy, Sweet Wife, and Crossroads Carnegie Art Center. Infinite thanks to all the volunteers who helps to make this year's event extra special. Many artists expressed that this was the most fun that they have had at a Plein Air event and that comes from some very exceptional and experienced painters. We also welcomed newcomers to Plein Air and the combination of artists from near and far made this a jolly good time for all. The weather was fantastic, and the spirit of the event took flight as artists from 7 states gathered together to celebrate the beauty of Baker County. Here are the winners of 17 awards sponsored by members of our community, judged by respected artist, Bonnie Zahn-Griffith. 2026 Winners Best of Show: Steven Hill “Powder River Near Sumpter” 1st Place: Adam Leveille “Cracker Creek, Sumpter” 2nd Place: Claire Remsberg “Good Morning, Baker Valley” Main Street Award: Adam Leveille “Baker City, Shadows” Best Barn Award: Robert Anders “Little Outbuilding” Best Ranch Award: Jill Storey “Old Souls” Powder River Award: Christine Chambreau “Powder River” Nocturne Award: Sandra Ford “Night Lumber” Best Sky Award: Laura Gable “Elkhorn Mountains Alpenglow” Pine Valley Award: Sue Martin “Old Walnut Tree” Sumpter Award: Marlene Kingman “Powder River 1: On the Road to Sumpter” Staff Choice Award: Bonnie Davis Kenaley “When the Mountains Blush” Dead Ox Ranch Award: Sue Martin “Dead Ox Farm” Americana Award: Steven Hill “A Baker Icon” Old Souls Farm Purchase Award: Adam Leveille “Old Soul’s Farm” La Dolce Vita Properties Purchase Award: Steven Hill “Powder River Near Sumpter”
